Ecommerce and Internet Marketing Podcasts Explosive Growth

I have been noticing a concerning trend in the past 18 months. The number of podcasts aimed at ecommerce and internet marketers have literally exploded. While I, as a podcaster fall into the aforementioned category, I have some very grave concerns for internet marketers regarding this growth not because of competition, but content and intentions.

When I began broadcasting ebay & Beyond: Basics To Business over 2 years ago, it was because I saw a need to bring accurate information to small and medium sized online marketers. At that time there was only one major internet radio program being broadcast and that is eBay Radio. While Griff and Lee provide good information, let’s face it, the program is basically a 2-3 hour commercial for eBay. This is fine, as long as the listener knows this.

Today there are hundreds if not thousands of podcasts targeted towards online sellers. The concerns I have are that many of these podcasts are basically infomercials for the hosts and the products or programs they are selling and not really focused on educating the listeners. Now don’t get me wrong, there are many GREAT ecommerce podcasts out there. These are done by real people who are real live internet markters, that talk the talk and walk the walk. People that are sellers who have created businesses online and know the pitfalls and hazards. Many are not really trying to sell you anything, but rather focused on providing useful information that internet marketers need to make intelligent decisions about their businesses.

Listener Beware

The whole point of this post is to warn those that are looking for information on ecommerce. Chose your programs for content and experience, not for hype, personality and promises!
