A mystery wrapped in an enigma! (Winston Churchill 1939)
According to Google.com, this website was started by former eBay Platinum PowerSellers in 2005 borne from their discontent at eBay. OK, certainly they are entitled to create a website/forum from which they can voice their opinions. Many of my readers know that I have not been a supporter of eBay’s policies of late.
What I find extremely interesting is that nowhere can I find out who these originators really are. There is mention in an Auctionbytes article from February 17, 2005 that says the site was originated by Bob Lee in January 2005, but I am unable to find any additional information regarding this. There is no About page. There is no physical address listed, but according to the article and the Site Admin postings, the home of the site is in Columbus OH. I did locate a press release on 24/7 by Lindsey Christ who according to the press release was helping moderate the site.
PowerSellersUnite.com has removed or made private their information according to the information available on WhoIs.com.
I have sent at least 3 emails to the info@powersellersunite.com address requesting an interview regarding the site and it’s focus without response. It appears that the principles and moderators of the site do not want to be known.
Again a mystery wrapped in an enigma. It appears to be a forum that allows members to voice their opinions on just about anything, and in any tone of voice! I searched through many of the forums and found constant bickering and fighting, name calling, and downright vicous attacks on both people posting on the forums and websites. I have received emails from listeners of ebay & Beyond: Basics to Business that posts that defend those posters or websites that are being attacked are removed.
I have heard reports that some posters in the forum have been removed from selling venues chat rooms or forums for the same type of behavior being exhibited in the PSU forums.
The site also provides what is calls Auction Site Counts but does not disclose how these counts are arrived at and many of the sites listed in it’s count are not auction sites at all.
A post in the forum in February 2008 states that PSU had achieved 10,000 members.
As an internet talk radio show host I totally believe in Freedom of Speech. I also believe that if you believe in your cause, be honest and forthright. Don’t hide behind anonymity and certainly provide proof of what you say!
To Bob Lee or whoever is running the PSU site I offer a standing invitation to schedule an appearance on ebay & Beyond: Basics to Business on any date that is agreeable to you and I. I really would like to understand the site and how it benefits ecommerce.
I host two live weekly internet radio programs. ebay & Beyond: Basics to Business as well as the OLA-Radio program.

Interesting that “they” , whom ever “they” are, seem to not want to take credit for the site. I am curious too as to who is behind the PSU curtain.
Keep us posted on your attempts to reveal who “they” are!

Henrietta,
I’ve got big shoulders and a hard head!

It certainly is not a “feel good” positive type site!!! Will be interesting to see if you can uncloak the “deep throats” – we”ll all be waiting & watching with baited breath………..

You’d better have a hard head, a hard hat AND a flack vest. Good luck.
Let us know who’s behind the curtain. (But I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for cooperation if I were you.)

My theory is that the eBay PINKS started this web site when Power & Platinum Sellers started getting crazed with many changes that started before 2005!
Unfortunately, it bit them in the butt when eBay had them terminated this year. No wonder they wanted complete annonimity. I have been suspicious of this site since they opened and started posting their rebellion in the eBay chats soooo many years ago! I never have trusted this site and they can be very vicious to anyone who disagrees with whatever agenda they seem to profess.

Thanks for the info Dave! Kinda reminds of the white-hooded individuals that need to spread their own particular brand of hatred and venom, just to make themselves feel superior, yet only succeed in showing cowardice.

I am a member of PSU. I have spent hours upon hours defending the site I sell on, OnlineAuction.com. I have asked many, many times for PSU management to step up to the plate and help stop the bickering, name calling, and lies that are told regularly in the OLA Forum… so regularly that most pro-OLA members no longer visit there as they see the trip as futile, not to mention harrassing. I have personally been called a street walker and worse, while the moderators did nothing… I still receive spam from where a PSU member signed me up for porn site ads… and I’ve had to remove (and stop using) the Google Discussion Group I started because of problems initiated by anti-OLA PSU members… a few times the management has accused me and other pro-OLA members of stirring the pot! This doesn’t just happen in the OLA Forums… it also happens in several of the other alternative site forums. It has recently come to my attention that the trouble may be being caused because of PSU members who sell on sites where they do not have their own ‘forum’ named for their particular site, having instead to ’share’ a forum for ‘other sites’ . I say that is what I think it is because recently the anti-OLA PSU members have been calling for OLA to be removed as a ‘named’ forum and sent to the same ‘generic’ forum they now occupy.
I’d personally like to know why they allow hate and animosity to occur in ANY of their forums. I’d like to know why they let some members harrass without reprimend.
Don’t get me wrong… there are a few PSU members who’ve stepped in to try and turn the forums around… and in some cases it has been successful. Those members are awesome, not because they like or dislike OLA, but because they see PSU as a ‘discussion forum’, not a toxic site and person bashing arena… now, if the moderators and management (whomever they may be) would do the same, PSU would cease to be the toxic dumping ground it is now.
What a shame that they have allowed a few members to chase off so many, and allowed their site to become the most toxic of discussion sites because of hateful and mean spirited unhappy-with-themselves people. The site is ‘billed’ as a site for ‘all sellers’ to DISCUSS alternative sites, but what it has become is a bashing ground by a few with multiple ID’s who do not sell (or buy) anywhere!!!

Ah yes, psu, where all the pissers and moaners go to bash auction sites who have done them wrong. lol! a good many there don’t have the work ethic to be selling online, so it’s easier to complain with the rest of the peas in that pod called psu. nasty bunch of squirrely pit vipers that are best avoided at all costs! go to read, but do not post if you disagree, or they’ll run you outta town. they are a sick form of entertainment if you have nothing better to do on a slow night, just remember to sit on your hands lest you be tempted to type a line or two. a good lesson in how not to become a bitter, washed up, online seller. but powersellers??? i think NOT.

I agree, PSU is a GREAT site to go if you are an unethical, mean-spirited, angry person who has been kicked off of every other forum or suspended from selling sites all over the internet.
If you are a serious seller, or even a hobby seller with ethics, it is NOT the place for you. I have seen good solid sellers who spend time at PSU become negative and mean when they go to other forums to post. When they STOP reading over at PSU, they stop being so negative. It is like a POISON! Avoid it like the plague that it is.
I hope you find what you are looking for from them, Dave, and perhaps knowing who is behind the site, might allow them to clean it up a bit. After all, if you are anonymous, why not be mean and vindictive? If no one can trace your comments to you or your products, why worry about it? Isn’t that the REAL issue?

I enjoy going to PSU. I found the people to be very friendly.
I guess if you are a OLA fan you would find the site to be very hard to take.

Perry
Thanks for your comment.
Unfortunatley I have not seen the friendliness you describe in the majority of the forums on the site.

I found this a very interesting read. I have spent a lot of time at PSU since last Feb when I found it, and it has been very helpful in my learning process regarding e-commerce beyond ebay. I have found there are many knowledgeable and helpful people on that site. I have also found that some folks are allowed to run rampant with most of the “refereeing” occurring from other members, and little to none occurring from the moderators.
I will say though, that I can appreciate what a daunting task it could be to keep a forum friendly and helpful and yet open to differences of opinion. I can’t lay all the blame for some of the furor at the feet of only 3 people, one of whom seems to be on an extended sabbatical.
As I noticed that it is a very busy forum, and as I “fit the bill” for the original requested requirements for moderators, I volunteered to be a moderator after some time there. My offer was ignored. I also suggested a couple other members who I believed would make good moderators. I don’t know if psunite is considering my suggestions or not.
I have recently become a moderator at another forum, and I invite anyone interested to take a look: onlinesellersunited.com – we aim to be helpful.

I only go to OSU for 2 things
#1 the auction site counts … It’s the easiest place to check and see how many items are listed on eCrater.com a non-auction site. There numbers posted are accurate everytime I have manually checked them.
#2 I go there to read what is being posted about ecrater.com which is usually a tame section of their forum.
I have wondered into other discussion boards at PSU and RUN I’m not there to fight or waste my time reading bickering, I want to gain knowledge.
At times they let the trolls take over. I have reported post within the ecrater section of the forum many times for flat out untrue remarks by posters that have no idea what they are talking about. Most of the time my reports appear to never be reacted on.
